Crown Melbourne Casino occupies 510,000 square metres of prime Southbank real estate along the Yarra River (two full city blocks). First-time visitors often underestimate the size of the complex and end up wasting time working out where things are. Read this before you go.
Plan for the first day at the venue
The venue runs three distinct properties, each aimed at a different type of guest. All three share the same check-in time (3:00 PM) and checkout (11:00 AM). Late checkout isn't available on weekends, school holidays, or during high-demand periods.
The flagship carries five Forbes Travel Guide stars and stacks 481 rooms across 39 floors. This is the premium option - prices reflect it.
Room types run from entry-level through to full villas:
The Crystal Club lounge operates daily from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM and covers breakfast, afternoon tea, and pre-dinner drinks with canapés. The indoor heated pool runs 25 metres, larger than most inner-city hotel pools in the city.
The largest hotel in Australia by room numbers (658 rooms across 28 floors). The Loft and Apartment categories suit longer stays or small groups. The infinity pool on level 27 delivers an unobstructed city panorama. The hotel sits directly above the Metropol Precinct (bowling, mini golf, escape rooms, and karaoke are one floor down). Room categories run from Luxe King and Twin through to City Luxe and Urban Luxe configurations. Room service covers both food and drinks around the clock.
465 rooms, 23 floors, and the most approachable rates of the three. An air bridge connects it directly to the main entertainment complex (you won't need to go outside to reach the casino floor or restaurants). Studios and two-bedroom studios work well for families. Corner King rooms on higher floors give you dual-aspect city views without the price tag of the Towers hotel. Baggage storage runs before check-in and after checkout at no extra charge.
Crown Casino Melbourne runs close to 45 food and beverage outlets across the precinct.
Nine restaurants sit at the top of the spectrum.
Leading five:
The mid-tier covers more than 10 venues. Man Tong Kitchen, Lucky Chan, 88 Noodle, and Maguro Sushi among them. For something faster, lower levels have KFC, McDonald's, Subway, and Fish & Chippery by The Atlantic.
Around 18 bar concepts operate across the complex:
The events infrastructure handles everything from national conventions down to private birthday functions. The complex runs 28 named event spaces across corporate, private, and wedding formats.
The Conference Centre covers 7,350 square metres across three levels.
Key venues:
Separate from the gaming floor, Crown Metropol houses its own entertainment zone:
The venue hosts the Aussie Millions Poker Championship every year (Australia's biggest poker tournament).
The venue's riverside walkway runs along the Yarra and connects the complex to the broader Southbank promenade. It's publicly accessible - you don't need a hotel booking or casino membership to walk through. The route takes you past the main restaurant strip and bar terraces, with the city skyline on one side and the river on the other. The Whiteman Street side of the complex is the main pedestrian entry point from the CBD, roughly a ten-minute walk from Flinders Street Station.
Two parking structures (multi-level and basement) give the precinct a combined capacity of over 5,000 bays. Cash isn't accepted anywhere on site. Bring a Rewards card or a bank card.
Valet operates at the Atrium Entrance on Whiteman Street. All three hotels charge C$70 per night per vehicle. A separate C$15 surcharge applies when you pull in before AFL games, Marvel Stadium events, or other major fixtures.
The F&B redevelopment running through 2026-2027 means parts of the riverside Riverwalk area are active construction zones. If you're planning a visit specifically around outdoor dining or the riverside terrace experience, check which venues are open before you book.
